COVID-19: Two patients on ventilator support

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that ventilators are being used to treat two COVID-19 patients admitted at Tree Top Hospital and Hulhumale' Medical Facility.

HPA's epidemiologist Dr. Ibrahim Afzal said five COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized, out of which two are being treated using ventilators due to critical condition. Afzal said a 77-year old local woman was being treated on aventilator at Tree Top Hospital while the person being treated at Hulhumale' Medical Facility is a 43 year old Phillipines national.

The Maldives has recorded 2,187 positive cases of COVID-19 thus far. While 8 fatalities have been recorded to date, the number of active cases is 389. A large percentage of infected patients have recovered from the illness.
