MIRA pardons tax fines due from 570 parties

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has waived off fines due from 570 parties in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a news brief held on Wednesday by MIRA, the Commissioner General (CG) of Taxation Fathuhulla Jameel said that the authority pardoned fines due from 570 parties that qualify to pay tax as per the guidelines laid down by the organization.

“We have been working to provide relief for more parties. There are certain criteria to be followed when exempting the fines. Fines will be pardoned for all the categories of tax. Fines related to submitting statements, GST and BPT also will be pardoned”, said Fathuhulla Jameel.

CG further said MIRA has arranged for businesses to pay taxes in instalments due to the losses faced by businesses during the current economic crisis. Instalment agreements have been signed with 74 parties thus far, said MIRA.

In the news brief, MIRA’s Deputy SG Ahmed Shareef said easy arrangements have been made for small business enterprises with the changes brought to payment schedules.
