COVID-19: Govt opens Hulhumale’ medical facility

Services have been commenced at the medical facility established in the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’ to treat COVID-19 patients.

According to the government’s main hospital IGMH, a patient was transferred on from the private Tree Top Hospital to the medical facility on Saturday. Tree Top Hospital is being utilised as the main treatment centre for COVID-19 following a surge in the positive cases in the Maldives.

The 300-bed medical facility has been developed at a vacant plot of land in front of the Tree Top Hospital. The development of the hospital commenced mid-April, and was later halted temporarily after some employees working at the site tested positive for COVID-19.

The medical facility, which cost MVR 40 million for its development, will be used to hospitalise COVID-19 patients who require admittance at a health care facilities. Patients in critical condition will be treated at Tree Top Hospital.

The total number positive COVID-19 cases in the Maldives tops 1900, including 827 recoveries, and eight fatalities.
