Parliament passes not to publicise family members’ financial statements

The parliament Wednesday passed not to publicise financial statements of parliament members’ spouses and children under the age of 18.

As per present Parliament Act, financial statements of the parliament members, their spouses, and children under the age of 18 have to be submitted to the parliament and shall be publicized in the parliament website.

A total of 62 members voted in favour of not publicising the of financial statements of parliament members’ spouses and children under the age of 18. No members voted against the proposed amendment.

As per the regulation, the financial statements shall be submitted before the end of August each year. If any members fail to submit the financial statements as per the regulation, the member will be suspended from parliamentary sittings and during the suspension period, the respective members’ salary will be deducted.
