A foreign fishing vessel trespassing on Maldivian waters has been detained by authorities.
Spokesperson of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Ibrahim Azim said a foreign fishing boat sighted near Dhiffushi island in Kaafu atoll on Saturday night has been detained by Maldives coast guard. The boat is now being brought to Hulhumale’ harbour under MNDF supervision, said Azim.
It has been reported that the boat is a Sri Lankan fishing vessel although MNDF has not confirmed the country or how many crew were aboard the vessel.
