Schools in Greater Male' area closed for two weeks

Schools in the Greater Male’ Region have been closed once again for a two-week period.

Maldives schools were closed as a precautionary measure against COVID-19 earlier in March, and schools except those in Male’ area were reopened in July. Physical classes for grades 9 to 12 were resumed in Male’, and plans were made to resume studies for grades 7 and 8 on August 16. While the schools are currently closed for the Eid holidays, classes were scheduled to reconvene on August 9.

However, based on advice from the Health Protection Agency, HPA, the Education Ministry has decided not to reopen for another two weeks due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases. Classes will continue to be conducted online, said the ministry. The decision will be revised after two weeks based on the situation in Maldives.
