COVID-19: Patient transferred from Omadhoo tests positive

A patient requiring medical attention who was transferred to capital Male’ from Omadhoo island has tested positive for COVID-19.

The island council’s president Adnan Abdulla said a 50 year old female who has respiratory issues tested positive for the virus. Her test came positive when she was tested for the virus prior to being admitted to state-run IGMH in Male’. However, the woman has no recent travel history and has not been in direct contact with anyone, said Adnan.

The number of COVID-19 cases detected in the Maldives has been rapidly increasing over the past week. Authorities have reimposed several restrictive measures in a bid to contain the infection rate. In this regard, movement restrictions have been tightened, and the use of masks when traveling in the atolls have been made mandatory.
