Hithadhoo island in southernmost Addu citu has been placed under Health Protection Agency, HPA’s monitoring status after two positive cases of COVID-19 were identified in the island.
Addu City’s mayor Abdula Sadiq said a document sent by HPA on Sunday said no entry and exit is allowed from Hithadho until further instructions are given by HPA.
A 38 year old foreigner in Hithadhoo tested positive for COVID-19 upon being tested for the virus following completion of quarantine. A Maldivian man completing home quarantine in Feydhoo isand also tested positive for the virus. The man traveled to Addu on August 6, said HPA.
The situation in Maldives has been worsening since the country lifted lockdown measures. Over 4,700 cases have been recorded thus far, and more cases are being identified from the atolls.
