A survey conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has shown that 7 percent of households in the Maldives do not have access to internet services.
According to the 2019 survey, majority of households in the Maldives have internet access. From among the households in capital Male’, only two percent of households do not have access to the internet while 13 percent of households in the atolls do not have access to the internet.
According to the statistics, 72 percent of households access the internet through data services while 47 percent of households use fibre optic cable connection.
The survey also found that the most commonly used communication devices in Maldivian households are smart phones and flat TVs. The percentage of households using computers and laptops in the capital are more in comparison to housholds in the atolls. However, those using simple cell phones and radios are more in the atolls in comparison to Male’.
The survey also showed that 81 percent of households across Maldives use cableTV services or subscriptions such as Netflix.
