'VIA is ready in terms of safety' : airports company

Maldives’ main international airport, Velana International Airport (VIA) is well prepared in terms of ensuring the safety of guests and those using the airport. The attestation was made by CEO of Maldives Airports Company Limited, Gordon Andrews Stuart.

Speaking at a virtual ceremony held Sunday evening to kick off new loyalty program, ‘Maldives Border Miles Privilege Program’, CEO Stuart said all precautionary measures adopted across the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic have been implemented at VIA. MACL, which manages VIA, said the company wishes to build the trust of visitors and provide assurance of its safety, he added.

In this regard, an international Health Accreditation Certificate was attained earlier this month, said Stuart, noting that Maldives is the second country to obtain the certification from among Asuan Pacific countries. VIA is the 12th airport in the world to obtain the certification.

Adding that VIA should remain a safe travel corridor, Stuart said the MACL management is working hard to ensure that. MACL is working to establish rapid testing facilities at the airport, he said.
