Charges filed against ex-VP Jihad in connection to Fushidhiggaru project

Charges have been filed against former Vice President Abdulla Jihad at the Criminal Court.

The Prosecutor General’s Office filed charges against Jihad in connection to the development of K. Fushidhiggaru as a special tourism zone; a project which resulted in the state suffering a major financial loss. Jihad was the Finance Minister when the joint venture between the Finance Ministry and a foreign party was signed to develop the island.

The joint venture agreement in question was signed on January 18, 2013. Although the joint venture agreement was signed during the administration of former president Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, the decision to contract the project to a foreign party was made by the administration of his predecessor, President Mohamed Nasheed.
