More cases recorded in the atolls than in the capital for the first time

The Maldives on Sunday recorded 84 positive cases of COVID-19.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said 2,231 samples were tested on Saturday, out of which 84 samples came back positive. This is the most number of samples tested in one day thus far.

According to HPA, 30 cases were identified in the Greater Male' Region and 54 cases were identified in the atolls. This is the first time the number of cases identified in the atolls exceeded the number of cases recorded in the capital.

The new positive cases are of 26 locals and 58 are foreigners. The total number of positive cases recorded to date is now at 11,505.

While 937 cases are currenly active, cases were identified from 22 islands and 24 resorts across Maldives, 37 deaths have been recorded to date. Besides capital Male’, the only island currently on HPA monitoring is Kulhudhuffushi City.
