Most number of tourists arriving via Emirates: stats

The most number of tourists are arriving in the Maldives via Emirates, statistics have shown.

According to the figures publicized by the Tourism Ministry, Emirates, which resumed operation in the Maldives the day after it reopened its borders earlier in July 15, has flown 14,987 tourists to the Maldives since then. While 178 flights were operated by Emirates until October 28th, the airline has decided to increase the number of flights to coincide with Europe’s upcoming winter season.

The second-most number of passengers were transported to the Maldives by Qatar Airways. The airline, which resumed flights on the same day as border reopening, has flown 14,690 passengers to the Maldives over 206 flights. Russia’s Aeroflot comes in third carrying 4,639 passengers over 28 flights.

The country to which most flights are operated to from the Maldives is currently India. Although flights are operated between the destinations by Air India, Indigo and SpiceJet, they only carried 1,559 passengers in total since border reopening.

The Maldives closed its borders to tourists on July 15 as a precautionary measure against COVID-19. The Tourism Ministry said 12 airlines are now operating to the Maldives, with 1,038 flight movements recorded since border reopening. While 47,357 arrivals have been recorded, 37,468 are tourists.
