The Tourism Ministry has made the decision to designate a special resort island for quarantining tourists and resort employees who test positive for COVID-19.

An announcement made by the Tourism Ministry said the ministry has decided to designate a special resort where tourists and tourism employees who test positive for the virus or are direct contacts can be isolated or quarantined.

The ministry said special conditions must be met to qualify as a resort that can serve as a quarantine and isolation facility. This includes having atleast 50 tourist beds, and the capacity to prepare the meals for the patients as well as other necessary accommodation arrangements during their stay. The resort must also be operated as per HPA’s guidelines, said the ministry.

The Tourism Ministry further said resorts will be chosen from Aa., ADh., and Vaavu atoll in addition to Male’ atoll. Interested resorts from the atolls have been asked to join a virtual information session on November 10th, and expressions of interest must be made by November 16.
