Increase in flight movements bring hope for tourism sector

Monthly traffic movement recorded at Maldives’ main international airport has increased to 1,148.

Maldives Airports Company Limited, which manages Velana International Airport (VIA) publicized statistics that show 1,148 flight movements were recorded at the airport during October. This includes 640 international flight movements and 50 domestic flight movements. In comparison, 730 movements were recorded in September, out of which 426 were international flight movements and the rest were domestic flight movements. The increase in movements is a sign that the tourism sector is improving, experts have said.

According to MACL’s statistics, 25,521 international arrivals were recorded in October. The number of departures was 22,828. 6416 passengers departed from VIA on domestic flights while 6,284 passengers arrived at the airport.
