COVID-19: Curfew hours shortened once again

Changes have been brought to the curfew hours imposed on the Greater Male’ Region.

Authorities imposed a curfew from 2200hrs to 0500hrs after a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases earlier in August. While the number of daily cases have declined significantly after the change, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) later shortened curfew hours to 2300hrs to 0500hrs mid-October.

HPA on Saturday said the curfew times have been revised once again to be in effect from 0000hrs to 0400hrs. No persons will be allowed outside during these hours and vehicles will not be allowed to operate during curfew hours.

HPA also said no more than 15 people can gather outside as a group. While the mandatory mask wearing rule is still in place, those traveling to islands from Male’, Villimale and Hulhumale’ will still be required to complete a two week quarantine, said HPA.

The Maldives has recorded almost 12,000 positive cases of COVID-19 to date. While 39 deaths have been recorded until now, 850 cases are currently active.
