Foreign Minister speaks with counterparts from three countries

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid on Friday spoke with his counterparts from three countries via telephone.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the minister spoke with the Foreign Minister of Sierra Leone, Nabeela Tunis, Malaysian Foreign Minister Hishamuddin Hussein and Foreign Minister of Brunei Darussalam, Dato Eruwan Yusof in separate phone calls. During the phone calls, he discussed strengthening the bilateral relationship with the respective countries, and international cooperation.

Last week, the minister virtually met with the European Union’s ambassador to the Maldives, Denis Chaibis and discussed ways in which easier fish exports to Europe from Maldives can be facilitated. Environmental issues as well as counterterrorism were also discussed during the virtual meeting.

Shahid also met with French ambassador to the Maldives, Lavertu Eric during the last week. Climate change and counterterrorism were discussed between the two, as well as fish exports to Europe.
