Body of boy stabbed to death brought to Maldives following postmortem

The body of the 17-year old boy stabbed to death in a gang fight has been brought back to Maldives after conducting his postmortem in neighboring India.

Ahmed Udhayyu was stabbed to death in Ga. Maamendhoo on February 8. His body was taken to India’s Medical College Hospital in Trivandrum on February 15.

According to the police, Udhayyu’s death is being investigated by its Serious and Organized Crime Department. Three suspects have now been taken into police custody in relation to the stabbing. They are local males aged 18, 23 and 27.

One other individual was injured in the fight. While he was initially in critical condition, his condition is now stable. The injured man is the sibling of the deceased boy.

Some sources who spoke from Maamendhoo said the altercations are believed to be due to a drug-related dispute. While drug issues are a serious concern in Maamendhoo, the public has been expressing concern over the lack of action by state institutions regarding the drug situation in Maamendhoo.
