135 resorts have requested to set up vote centres: EC

The Elections Commission (EC) has stated that 136 resorts have requested to set up voting centres in the resorts for the upcoming local council election.

The Commission’s President Ahmed Shareef Adam said the commission has received requests from 135 resorts to set up vote centres, and that the commission would accommodate the requests. One vote box will be set up at each of the resorts, although the figure is subject to change, said Shareef.

The commission has commenced preparations for the long-delayed council elections, now scheduled for April 10th. While the State of Health Emergency has been implemented in the Maldives, Shareef said conducting the election in such a situation is costly and challenging.

The list of those eligible to vote in the election has been published, and the Elections Commission has opened for submission of complaints regarding the list.
