COVID-19 vaccine administered to almost 9,000 tourism workers

The initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to over 8,800 tourist workers.

The Tourism Ministry allocated 10,000 COVID-19 doses for those working in the tourism industry and opened registration for vaccine administration last month. The ministry said while 8.800 workers have been vaccinated thus far, they are all considered as front-line workers, and accounts for 30 percent of all frontline workers.

The Maldives kicked off its COVID-19 vaccination campaign on February 1st, after India donated 100,000 doses of the COVISHIELD vaccine. Since then, over 138,000 people have received the vaccine’s first dose.
