Maldives records 100,000 tourist arrivals in a month

Over 100,000 tourists visited the Maldives over the past month, statistics have shown. This is the first time the number of monthly tourist arrivals exceeded 100,000 after the country reopened its doors to tourists following border closure.

The Maldives closed its border in March 27, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The country reopened its border almost three months later in July, and the most number of tourist arrivals were recorded the following February. 96,882 tourists visited the Maldives during February this year.

The number of tourists that visited the Maldives in a month exceeded 100,000 on Tuesday with the arrival of tourists via an Emirates Airlines flight. A special event was held at main-international airport, Velana International Airport to celebrate the milestone. The 100,000th tourist was Ms. Hana Mohamed Ahmed Kamal Mustafa from Egypt, who will be spending her holiday in the Maldives at Intercontinental Maldives’ Maamunagau Resort.
