Prisoners receive COVID-19 vaccine

The first dose of the VOCID-19 vaccine is being administered to all inmates and detainees under Maldives Correctional Services' responsibility.

An official from Maldives Correctional Services said the vaccine program for inmates and detainees began last Sunday. Prisoners' at Male' Prison and Hulhumale' Prison have all received the first dose of the vaccine under the program. The vaccines were administered with the assistance of health care workers of Dhamanaveshi Health Centre.

Corrections said vaccine will be given to prisoners at Maafushi Prison from either Wednesday or Thursday onward. The program will be carried out in collaboration with Maafushi Health Centre.

Corrections said a date on which vaccines will be administered to prisoners at Asseyri Jail in Himmafushi has not been scheduled yet. Himmafushi Health Centre will be involved in the vaccine administration process.

Vaccines will be given only to those who wish to receive it, said Corrections.
