The Elections Commission (EC) has stated that the preliminary results of the Local Council Election for all constituencies will be announced by Saturday night.
The Commission has attempted to announce the preliminary results of Saturday's election over multiple occasions. However, the commission could not go ahead with the announcements as there were several details that the commission needed to verify before the announcements.
EC on Saturday said over 91 percent of council elections results had been announced by 3:30 am on Saturday, as well as 86 percent of the Women's Development Committee election results. The remaining results will be announced from 10pm onwards on Saturday night, sad EC.
The Elections Commission made the decision to recount the ballots of 18 vote boxes after discrepancies were identified in the results sheets. Main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has also requested EC to recount six ballot boxes. Last night, the commission opened the sealed security envelopes of three ballot boxes to confirm results.
