Greater Male Interconnection Grid Project to reach completion in July

Utility Company, STELCO has stated that the electricity network connecting Male', Hulhumale' and Hulhule will reach completion by July this year.

STELCO began the practical implementation of the project in 2016. Speaking to AVAS, a media official from STELCO said 93 percent of the 'Greater Male Interconnection Grid Project' has reached completion. The company said the substations being established under the project have already been constructed, and that the laying of electricity cables across the Sinamale' Bridge between Male' and Hulhumale' is underway. The company said the project would allow for any electrical issues to be resolved in a timely and effective manner.

STELCO further said the the newly built 50 megawatt powerhouse in Hulhumale' would be the main powerhouse providing electricity via the interconnection cable laid across Male', Hulhumale and Hulhule. After the completion of the project, the capacity of the network will be strengthened, and can transfer up to 100 megawatts of electricity via the interconnection cable.
