Former President of the Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom was taken to reclaimed suburbs Hulhumale on Monday night to receive the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, Maldives Correctional Services has said.
President Yameen is currently serving a five year sentence on a money laundering conviction. He was transferred to house arrest on April 27 after a COVID-19 outbreak was identified at Maafushi Jail where he was serving his sentence.
Rumors had been circulating on social media that Yameen visited his daughter's home in Hulhumale on Monday night while under house arrest. Addressing the rumors, Maldives Correctional Service said Yameen was taken to Hulhumale to receive the second dose of the vaccine at Hulhumale Hospital around 9:30 pm.
