Maldives' VP tests positive for COVID-19

Vice President of the Maldives, Faisal Naseem has tested positive for COVID-19.

The President's Office said the vice president tested positive for the virus and is currently in isolation. He is in good health.

Vice President Faisal has completed both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. He tested positive for the virus at a time the archipelago is experiencing an alarming surge in infections. The country's tally has exceeded 59,000 and the number of deaths is at 147. The month of May has been particularly devastating, with more COVID-19 deaths recorded in May 2021 than the combined number of all COVID-19 deaths in 2020.
