Daily number of arrivals highest on June 13

The most number of tourists arrived in the Maldives in a single day this month on June 13, the Tourism Ministry has said.

Statistics released by the ministry show the daily arrival number was at 2,415 on Sunday. The average number of daily arrivals fluctuated between 1,500 and 2,000 since the beginning of the month while their average stay has remained at nine days. Although the industry has suffered a decline in the number of daily arrivals due to the country's COVID-19 situation, an average stay of nine days is good progress in the current situation as it would increase bed nights and the revenue generated.

According to the numbers, 475,745 tourists have arrived in the Maldives thus far this year. The government hopes to host 1.5 million tourists this year. The tourism-dependent archipelago welcomed 1.7 million tourists in 2019, while 555,494 tourists visited the country last year despite a three-month border closure due to COVID-19.
