Defense Ministry shares May 6 attack info with HRCM

The Defense Ministry has provided the information required by the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) regarding the May 6 terror attack that targeted Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

The Defense Ministry shared the information with the commission while the commission member Mu'umina Waheed has expressed concern regarding the lack of cooperation from the Defense Ministry in providing the necessary information. Mu'umina had warned that the commission would work to obtain the information through legal means if the details are not provided to the commission by the end of the week.

When asked if the Defence Ministry had shared the information within the specified timeframe, commission member Dr. Ahmed Adhuham Abdulla confirmed that the required information had been shared by the Defence Ministry. However, he did not specify when the information was provided.

Nasheed was taken to ADK Hospital in Maldives' capital Male' on the night of May 6 after he sustained serious injuries in an explosion near his residence in Male'. According to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the blast occurred when an IED strapped to a motorcycle was detonated. Multiple critical surgeries were performed on Nasheed at ADK Hospital, and he is currently recuperating from his injuries in Germany. He was admitted and treated at a German military hospital and has since been released. However, his treatment continues.
