MNDF issues travel warning over bad weather

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has warned seafarers to practice caution due to adverse weather conditions.

Maldives Meteorological Services have warned of torrential rain and strong winds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts of 50 mph for a large part of Maldives. Very rough seas are expected with the possibility of swell waves. Yellow Alerts have been issued from Haa Alif to Thaa atoll from 1500hrs to 1900hrs.

MNDF said while meteorological services have warned that the Maldives will experience rough weather, seafarers are urged to be cautious of the latest weather conditions in planning their voyage. They also urged that vessels inform relevant authorities before setting sail and to ensure that lifejackets, communication equipment, and water pumps are readily available on the vessels.

MNDF also urged cargo vessels to ensure that guidelines are followed in loading cargo and to properly secure vessels at docks and in lagoons. All vessels have been asked to contact the Coast Guard at 191 if any incident occurs at sea.
