Gov't working on revising remuneration structure for education sector

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the government is working on revising the remuneration structure for the education sector.

Speaking at a ceremony held at Rehendhi School on Tuesday to kick off the new academic year, President Solih said teachers take on the biggest workload of the education sector. The services and sacrifices by teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic are invaluable, and teachers have always tirelessly served the nation even before that, acknowledged the president.

The president said the government will be allotting salary increments for educators in next year’s budget, as well as offering allowances and incentives to teachers willing to work in islands. President Solih said teachers play the main role in implementing the government's policies on character building. In this regard, extremism and drug issues can be addressed via the education system, said the president.

The president further expressed his joy that students are able to return to schools and continue their education in a physical setting after 1.5 years of studying in 'new normal' conditions due to COVID-19. He also commended the teachers on their hard work to ensure that student's education remained uninterrupted even when the country faced its worst COVID-19 situation. He thanked school management, teachers, and parents for their work during the time.
