Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to develop an airport in R. Alifushi.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the Planning Ministry on Tuesday. The agreement was signed on behalf of the government by Director General of the Planning Ministry, Fathimath Shana Farooq. CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim signed the document on behalf of the company.
The value of the airport project is MVR 451,615,528.48. The project is expected to reach completion within 750 days. The scope of the project also includes dredging a large area of the island.
CEO Azim said he is confident that MTCC will be able to complete the project within the allocated timeframe. He said that the company would cooperate with the government's goals to bring about swift development.
In addition to Alifushi, the government will also be developing airports in M. Muli, B. Thulhaadhoo and F. Bilehfahi. The projects are expected to be implemented in the upcoming year.
