MTCC is preparing to commence the dredging work for the construction of Alifushi Airport.
The government awarded the dredging work required under the airport development project to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on September 1 last year. The value of the project is MVR 452 million, and the project must be completed within 750 days.
A total of 50.5 hectares of land will be dredged for the construction of the airport, including 40.5 hectares for the airport and 105 hectares for housing. A 2,871-metre area of revetment and a 480-meter groyne will also be constructed.
The airport will have a 1,200-metre runway, taxiway, terminal buildings, security fence, fire station, and service road.
MTCC's CEO Adam Azim said the project would be completed within the deadline given by the government.
In addition to Alifushi, airports will be developed in HDh. Makunudhoo, Sh. Bilaiyfahi, B. Thulhaadhoo, M. Muli, F. Magoodhoo, Th. Vilufushi and a Raa atoll island. In addition, the government is preparing to open the Faresmathoda Airport this year.
