MNP holds inaugural congress

Maldives National Party (MNP) has approved its logo, flag and charter at its inaugural congress held Friday.

The inaugural congress is ongoing at Ghiyasuddin School Hall. Divided over two sessions, the first session ran from 02:00 pm to 06:00 pm during which the party's logo, emblem, flag and charter were approved. The party's internal election also took place during the first session.

During voting, 332 party members voted in favour of approving 'Maldives National Party' as the party's official name. Only three members voted against approving the name. While 301 members voted in favour of approving the proposed logo, 37 members voted against it. 306 members voted in favour of the proposed flag and 37 members voted against it. 302 members voted in favour of the party's charter.

An interim elections committee was elected to oversee the party's internal election. Voting is now ongoing, with votes being cast online. This is the first time an online voting system is being used for the internal elections of a political party in the Maldives.
