Man found murdered in ADh. Dhangethi

A 57-year old man has been found murdered in ADh. Dhangethi.

The victim has been identified as local businessman, Mahmood Aboobakuru. He was last seen when he left his home after watching the India-Maldives SAFF Championship game on Wednesday night, telling his wife that he would return shortly. The family reported him as missing to the island council on Thursday morning after he failed to return home.

According to sources, the body was tied up in a sack and discarded in a well. The body was discovered shortly after 3 pm on Thursday. The police have confirmed that a body was found in Dhangethi, and said investigation is ongoing.

Some locals from Dhangethi said Mahmood's body showed extensive injuries. It is believed that he was murdered by two men from Thoddoo who arrived in Dhangethi on Wednesday night. The two men are linked to a vandalism that occurred in Dhangethi a while back, and the men were driven out of the island by locals following the incident. The suspects were handed over to the police by locals, although no arrests have been made thus far.

Mahmood ran a restuaurant on the western side of the island, and provided other services such as delivery of staple foods. The councillor said Mahmood is well-loved by the people of the island, and that it is hard to believe that any person from Dhangethi would harm Mahmood.
