MNDF issues travel warning over bad weather

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has warned seafarers to practice caution due to adverse weather conditions.

Maldives Meteorological Services have warned of strong winds with gusts of 45 mph and rough seas over the next couple of days for a large area of the Maldives.

MNDF said while meteorological services have warned that the Maldives will experience rough seas, seafarers are urged to be cautious of the latest weather conditions in planning their voyage. They also urged that vessels inform relevant authorities before setting sail and to ensure that lifejackets, communication equipment, and water pumps are readily available on the vessels. Small vessels are discouraged from traveling at night and during rain.

MNDF also urged cargo vessels to ensure that guidelines are followed in loading cargo and to properly secure vessels at docks and in lagoons.
