Authorities caution travelers due to bad weather

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has urged travelers to practice caution in light of multiple incidents occurring at sea due to bad weather.

MNDF’s Chief Spokesperson Ibrahim Azim on Saturday said a number of dangerous incidents have occurred at sea over the past couple of days.

In one incident, fishermen were stranded at sea after their vessel sank while they were fishing near Male’ Atoll Huraa fishing raft. Another incident occurred near Addu Atoll in which a dingy vessel capsized due to rough seas.

Maldives Meteorological Service has forecasted severe weather conditions in the upcoming days. The Meteorological office has issued a white alert for areas between Baa Atoll to Laamu Atoll forecasting heavy rain showers with winds blowing 22 to 27 miles and gusts up to 45 miles. Seas are expected to be rough across Maldives with possible swells.
