Guraidhoo care facility's situation worsens with new COVID-19 death

An elderly person who was being treated for COVID-19 has passed away.

The Gender Ministry's Media Official told AVAS that the 65-year-old man, who is a patient at the elderly care facility in K. Guraidhoo passed away in Male' City after he was transferred to the capital on doctors' advise. The official said samples of 50 patients and staff at the care center were collected following the man's COVID-19 diagnosis. Out of these, 16 samples came back positive: 9 employees and 8 patients.

The official further said two patients have been transferred to Male' City as they require further treatment. They are admitted at Hulhumale' Medical Facility.

While two days have passed since the death of the elderly patient, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) is yet to announce the death. AVAS has been unable to obtain a statement from HPA regarding the death.

The Maldives' COVID-19 death toll is now 240. 8 deaths have been recorded thus far this month.
