The Health Ministry has said 20 ambulances will be sent to healthcare facilities in the atolls over the next three days.
An official from the Health Ministry said the 20 ambulances procured through the State Trading Organization (STO) will be sent to the atolls as soon as the administative arrangements are finalized. The ministry has not yet announced the islands to which the ambulances will be sent.
The announcement comes while criticism has been aimed at the government after a photo showing an elderly man being taken to the health center in a wheelbarrow made its rounds in social media.
96 ambulances will be purchased under the agreement signed with STO in June this year.
