Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said bus fare would be free for students effective next year.
A statement released by the company said bus services will be available to school students in Male' City and the atolls free of charge from 2022. The statement read that people with disabilities and special needs can also travel on the bus for free.
MTCC already provides free ferry travel for students, those with special needs, and those over the age of 65.
Currently, MTCC provides bus services between Hithadhoo and Feydhoo island of southernmost Addu City. The buses are designated for school students.
MTCC said they are in the process of procuring vehicles to begin bus services in Addu, Fuvahmulah, L. Gan, Fonadhoo, Isdhoo, and Kalhaidhoo.
