Minibus fare fixed at MVR 7

The fare for minibus service in Male' City has been fixed at MVR 7.

The information was revealed Thursday in an infographic video released by the "Government of Maldives" Twitter account- a handle used to explain and promote government projects and policies. After the video was released, MTCC also confirmed to AVAS that a minibus ride would cost MVR 7.

Neither the government nor the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) that operates the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) services has announced a date on which minibus service will commence in Male'. Over the last two weeks, MTCC has been conducting experimental trips in preparation for beginning the service.

As per the infographic, the minibus fare will be free for children ages three and below, students in uniform, and the elderly. The buses used to provide the service will have the capacity to carry 20 passengers, and one seat is reserved for wheelchair users. Twelve minibusses will be used to provide services in the city.

The mini-bus service will be operated on two main routes on Majeedhee Magu and Ameenee Magu. Vehicle parking has been prohibited on these two roads, and new parking zones are being set up in other areas. The City Council is also renovating road signs and installing traffic boards.

The launch of minibus services in the city is one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's presidential promises to be fulfilled within 100 days of taking office.
