Arabiyya School to share Izzuddin School building

The government has said that students of Arabiyya School will be temporarily relocated to Izzuddin School.

Arabiyya School building was constructed and opened in 2013. The less-than-ten-year-old building already has multiple cracks in the building beams, and parents and the public alike have raised concerns about the safety of the building.

A statement released by the Education Ministry said the ministry does not wish for the student's education to be interrupted. Therefore, the school's students will be moved to Izzuddin School, and one of the schools currently being constructed in Hulhumale' Phase II will be designated for the school, the statement read.

The ministry further said once the structural assessment of the Arabiyya School building is completed, renovation work will be carried out as per the recommendations in the evaluation. The statement said the building will always remain as Arabiyya School.

Parents and students of the school are not happy with the ministry's decision to share the Izzuddin School building. The parents noted that while Izzuddin School already has over 200 students, it would be impractical for Arabic-medium students and teachers to share a building with English-medium students and teachers.

The parents also noted that while Arabiyya School has 46 classrooms, it would be impossible to fit the students of these classes into 20 classrooms in Izzuddin School. They also questioned how the management and staff of both schools would share the building.
