The Elections Commission has said no applications have been received for candidacy in the Womens' Development Committee by-election for Ha. Thakandhoo, Th. Vilufushi, and Ga. Gemanafushi.
The by-electionS for the three constituencies have been scheduled for February 5. However, on Tuesday, the Elections Commission said no candidates have expressed interest in contesting in the election thus far. As application submission will close on January 5, the commission reminded those wishing to compete in the election to submit their documents before the deadline.
While the by-elections for the three constituencies have been scheduled for February 5, the by-election to elect a parliament member to the Komandoo constituency will also take place on the same date. The main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), and newly formed Maldives National Party (MDP) have put forth candidates for the Komandoo by-election.
