Eleven arrested at opposition's 'India Out' rally

The police on Wednesday arrested 11 people at a rally held by opposing Progressive Congress Coalition.

The individuals were arrested outside the PPM office in capital Male' in an event where the protesters called for Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives to leave the country. According to the police, nine women and two men were arrested for obstructing the police from performing their duty. Former Hoarafushi MP Mohamed Ismail was among the detained.

On Wednesday, an 'India Out' event was held in F. Nilandhoo to collect signatures for the opposition's petition. Recently, former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Qayyoom traveled to Nilandhoo with senior party officials to attend an event under the 'India Out' campaign.
