Komandoo by-election debate slated for Jan 25

State media, Public Service Media (PSM), has scheduled a debate between Komandhoo by-election candidates for January 25.

The Komandoo parliamentary seat became vacant in December with the death of Komandoo MP Hussain Waheed. Three candidates are contesting for the seat in the election scheduled for February 5. Main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will be represented in the election by Mohamed Raashid and Moosa Fathuhy from the opposing Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM), and Abdul Hannan Idris from Maldives National Party (MNP) will also contest in the election.

According to PSM, a debate between the three candidates has been scheduled for 9:00 pm on January 25. The debate will be live-streamed on PSM News, TVM, and Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu radio channel.

Ballot boxes for the Komandoo by-election will be placed in Komandoo, Maroshi, and Foakaidhoo island in addition to the capital, Male'. According to the Elections Commission, 3,316 individuals are eligible to vote in the election.
