Maldives Correctional Service has said 41 positive cases of COVID-19 have been detected from Maafushi Prison.
Corrections said among the positive cases, 36 cases were among inmates. Sixty-four inmates who are direct contacts of the positive cases have been quarantined.
Among jail officers, five officers have tested positive and are in isolation. Twelve officers are in quarantine.
The jail was put under high alert on January 14, per the Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s and Correction's guidelines. Family and lawyer meetings with inmates and court hearings have been changed to online.
