COVID-19 cases increasing in Addu City

The number of COVID-19 cases in southernmost Addu City has started increasing.

Addu City was placed under the Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s monitoring status last August. When the COVID-19 situation was at its worst last year, Addu City's active cases lingered around 300. The monitoring mechanisms on the city were lifted on December 31st. Since then, the city's COVID-19 situation has started worsening.

The most recent data from Addu Emergency Operation Center shows the city has 349 active cases. Of the current active cases, 158 are from Hithadhoo, while 67 are from Meedhoo. While 58 cases are active in Feydhoo, 29 cases are active in Hulhumeedhoo. An additional 19 cases are active in Maradhoo Feydhoo and five in Maradhoo.

Over the past 24 hours, 86 positive cases were recorded in Addu. Although the number of cases is rising, the city has not been put back under monitoring.
