Maldives sees 45 percent increase in tourist arrivals

Statistics have shown that the Maldives has seen a 45 percent increase in tourist arrivals.

Official statistics by the Tourism Ministry show 210,184 tourists visited the Maldives from the beginning of the year until February 17. This is a 45 percent increase compared to the number of tourists that visited the Maldives during the same period last year. In 2021, 145,046 tourists visited the Maldives by February 17.

The figures show 78,420 tourists have visited the Maldives thus far this month. The arrival number is also a 48.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The average daily arrivals at this time is 4,901. Compared to the past three years, the average stay has also increased this year. However, this month's average stay duration of 8.7 days trails behind last month's nine days.

The current top market for tourism in Russia, with 33,191 arrivals recorded thus far this year. The UK follows behind with 24,010 arrivals. Neighbouring India is in the third position with 18,044 arrivals.

The Tourism Ministry expects 1.7 million tourists to visit the Maldives this year. The Tourism Minister, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, has said his target is to host 2 million tourists this year.
