President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to develop a picnic island for the residents of Lh. Olhuvelifushi.

The President is currently on a tour of the Lhaviyani Atoll. He visited Olhuvelifushi as part of the tour on Sunday and met with the island residents.

During the meeting, the President spoke on the progress of the island's harbor construction. He said that the government would develop a picnic island for Olhuvelifushi residents using the sand obtained through dredging the harbor.

However, the President did not provide a timeline on when the work would commence. He said a picnic island could cause changes to Olhuvelifushi and that a research must be conducted before beginning the project.

The President also revealed the decision to carry out a project to ensure Olhuvelifushi was an island that generated 100 percent solar energy. He assured that the government would fulfill the needs of the island people.

President Solih also met with the Olhuvelifushi Island Council, the Women's Development Committee, and the heads of the island's school and health center. He inquired from them about the difficulties they faced in their sector.
