MP Rashid appointed to three standing committees

New Komandoo MP Mohamed Rashid has been appointed to three standing committees of the Parliament.

Commencing Monday's Parliament sitting, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed said changes had been brought to some committees under Article 131)b) of the Parliament Act.

In this regard, Fuvahmulah South MP Mohamed Mumtaz will represent the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)in the Public Accounts Committee. MP Rashid will take Mumtaz's place in the General Purpose Committee.

Rashid will also replace MDP member Madaveli MP Hussain Firushan on the Committee on Decentralization. Furthermore, he will sit on the Committee on Member’s Privileges and Ethics.

Rashid was elected to the Komandoo seat in a by-election held on February 5 following the death of MP Hussain Waheed. He was sworn in as Komandoo MP on February 9.
