The Foreign Ministry has said all Maldivian nationals in Ukraine to leave the country are being evacuated.
Since Russia declared war on Ukraine, the Maldives government has been working on evacuating Maldivians stranded in Ukraine. In this regard, several Maldivians were evacuated to Hungary via the Ukraine-Hungary border over several occasions. Some have already returned to the Maldives.
In its latest update on the matter, the Foreign Ministry said the last batch of Maldivians in Ukraine is en route to the western border. They are eight students in Kharkiv and one in Dnipro. The ministry said they would reach the border very soon.
The ministry further said it is providing financial assistance to Maldivian students in Belarus and Russia who wish to return to the Maldives.
